Do I need a new power supply?

Hey guys

Built a rig based on specs from here a couple of years ago. It currently has an RTX 2080Ti in it with an 850 watt supply. If I want to add an RTX 3080 Ti, will this PSU still work or do I need to get a bigger one?

Depends on what you're doing and what else you're running on your system. Ideally, you'd want a 1000W PSU for the 3080 Ti only if you're also running something like a Core i9 12900K or 5950X. Otherwise, it should do just fine :)

Probably should have listed that. Core i9 Kaby Lake 3.6Khz. So I'd want to run the 2080 Ti and the 3080 Ti on the same system. Sounds like I need to upgrade the PSU. If I'm running both cards, do I need a 1200 watt?

I need to run 2 cards because I've recently discovered that it's problematic to run Redshift and Photoshop at the same time with a single card. Locks up Cinema 4D because they are both demanding dominance with the card. Plus I'd like a 2nd card card for more rendering power.

I don't think Kaby Lake had a Core i9? Could you list the CPU model? If you're on Intel's HEDT platform, the power requirements will be relatively higher than current consumer standards.

I have Speccy and that's what it's telling me.

That doesn't seem quite right. Do you know how many cores you have? Should be visible in Task Manager.

Ah, a 9900K so Coffee Lake.
Well, from a power FOV, a 1200W should do the trick :) If you want to accommodate future releases or maybe add something like another 3080 Ti, can look into 1500W options. The price difference shouldn't be too major

Interesting that it would tell me Kaby. Are you saying if I added a 3rd card to the same rig or if I replaced the 2080 Ti with the 3080 Ti I should look into 1500W?

I just ordered a 1200watt PSU and an RTX 3090. Hopefully I didn't just make a big mistake and that can power both the 2080Ti and the 3090.
