Hey friends,
First and foremost THANK YOU!!!!! I can't tell you how helpful it has been to have you as a resource. Navigating this stuff has been super confusing for me, but the way you broke it all down here has been SUUUUUUUUUUCH a lifesaver. You are a lighthouse over troubled water. Is there a donate page? I want to contribute. Or could I contract with you to build out my system for me?

So I am finally making the switch from Mac to PC. I need a machine that does it all. In my work, I am called to do animation, editing, compositing, and even audio work from time to time. A versatile machine will be very important, and hopefully, something that can be upgraded down the road.

My sense is that there are some rendering wars going on right, and I'm not sure if this is a good time to buy. I hear rumors that there is a big shakeup going down in the graphics world at the moment. Does this sound right? But with Cyber Monday right around the corner, it seems like a good time to pull the trigger. I assume there will be some good deals on components.

My budget is $3500 US and I don't really have any specific system requirements other than which runs my software best

I animate in C4D
render in Octane and Redshift
Edit in Premiere Pro
composite and animate in AE

that's basically it. and I'm looking to hire someone to help me do it. I'm hoping to pull the trigger on Cyber Monday to save a little coin. I don't even know if it's possible to time something out like that. Happy to pay someone to help me figure this out.

Again, thank you for doing what you do here. This is awesome.

With gratitude,
Zach

Hey Zach,
Thanks, glad you find our site helpful! :)

You are right, there have been some new releases in both cpus and gpus, and there are some very nice options to chose from.

Nvidia recently released their new RTX 30xx gen GPUs which are really great in GPU Render performance, and AMD is launching their new CPUs Nov. 5th, and those are announced to blow anything intel has to offer out of the water.

AMD is also launching highly competitive gpus with performance which is on par with nvidias current gen, but since most render engines (octane redshift) only work on nvidia, this is your best bet.

So if you can wait a couple more days for official benchmarks of the next gen ryzen cpus to surface, it should be worth it.

With your budget I am thinking of some of the following parts:

AMD Ryzen 5950X
Nvidia RTX 3080 or 3090
Adata XPG nvme ssd
64GB of RAM
850W PSU
x570 Motherboard such as the MSI Tomahawk

Whatever Case you like.

Cheers
