I am looking for guidance on buying a laptop for CAD, 3D animation, and 4k video editing. I'm not well-versed with computers, so I'm still learning about what exactly I should be looking for.

I currently have the first version of the surface book, which still works well, but I can no longer render anything without it crashing. I love the surface series, but I want to see what other options exist.

I'm looking for something under the $2,000 range.
The main applications that I use are:
  • Rhino 3d and Fusion 360 for CAD
  • Cinema 4d and Keyshot for 3D animation/Rendering
  • Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro for Video Editing
  • Ableton live 11 and Adobe Audition for Music/Audio Editing
( I use almost most of the Adobe creative cloud, so anything that can handle Adobe works for me )
I'm also open to some desktop suggestions if anyone thinks I should just invest in a desktop.

Thank you for replying, and sorry for the late reply.

I had a look at the link you sent a few months back and spoke to a few local computer shops near me.

Here are my top 4 picks:

1. Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model 4K OLED Laptop: AUD $2,499
  • CPU: i7-10875H processor Graphics Card: GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER™ with Max-Q Design RAM: 16GB SSD: 1TB SSD
2. Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 Notebook 15.6" Quad HD: AUD $2,399.00
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS, Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, RAM: (8GBx2) 16GB DDR4, SSD: 512GB NVMe PCIev
3. Asus ROG Strix G15 15.6: AUD $2,798
  • CPU: AMD R9-5900HX, Graphics Card: RX 6800M, RAM: (8GBx2) 16GB DDR4, SSD: 512GB NVMe PCIev ( This is the ASUS bundle pack, so thats why it cost more )
4. Asus ROG Strix G15 15.6: AUD $2,699.00
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 6800H, Graphics Card: GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, RAM: (8GBx2) 16GB DDR4, SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD

Unfortunately, in Australia, many RTX 3060 laptops are around $3000. The RTX 3070 laptops and 3080 laptops are well over $3,000 to $4000. It is crazy comparing the prices from the US even with the exchange rate/older laptops.

Honestly, I want to be able to render my 4k videos and 3D models. The Razer Blade 15 and Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 are my top two because they have an SD Card reader. The Asus ROG Strix G15s are on my list because of the local recommendations and your reviews.
