basic graphic design programs for completely newbies

Can someone please advise some basic graphic design programs for completely newbies? where you can learn just some basic things for different areas of graphic design.
and there may be some links to tutorials and training materials.

Hi CaliA. You can also try Inkscape (similar to Illustrator) and Gimp (similar to Photoshop). They are both free.
