PC Build purpose: 3d modeling, animation and rendering.
Budget: 2000 Euros/Dollars.
Country of shopping: Germany

Hello dear computer experts!

I´m a 3d artist from Hamburg, Germany.

Currently, I´m building a new workstation for the purpose of 3d modeling, animation, rendering.

As of now, I own a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB and would like to keep it and put it in the new setup.

This is the current setup, that I assembled in the cgdirector pc builder.

CGDirector.com Parts List: https://www.cgdirector.com/pc-builder/?=6LPRD

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5GHz 16-Core Processor ($721.99)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 ($219.99)
GPU: (Nvidia RTX 2070 8GB - MSI Gaming ($995.99) ) -----------------> In my version it would be the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB.
Memory: 64GB (4 x 16GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 C16 ($242.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: Sabrent Rocket 1TB NVMe Gen4 M.2 Solid State Drive ($169.98)
Power Supply: Corsair CX Series CX550M 550W ATX 2.4 Power Supply ($79.99)
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 ($142.98)
Total: $2663.81

Is the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB the equivalent to the Nvidia RTX 2070 8GB? It was also around 1000 Euros/Dollars.

I would be happy if you could possibly give me some feedback on this setup.

Many greetings,
Ilya Landshut

Hey Ilya,
Yes the 1080ti is comparable to a 2070 super. The 2070 super of course has RT Cores, making it faster in some gpu render engines that support rtx.

The rest of the build looks good to me! :)

Hi Alex, thanks very much for your feedback!

I noticed, that the pc tower is a bit too small for my Nvidia gtx 1080 ti 11gb. Can your recommend a bigger case with an efficient cooling system? (I will also render on the pc.) Will I need to add additional coolers?

Thanks in advance.

Many greetings from Hamburg,
Ilya Landshut

Both the cooler master and the corsair cases are excellent. I'd lean towards the corsair if I'd have to decide for myself :)

Ilya, I highly recommend more power. I have Corsair 1200w power in my tower, and it's never let me down. I have a Quadro P5000 card and more drives, so I need more, but I'm a firm believer than more power than you need. Many crashes start with the power supply.

Your existing graphics card should be fine. When you find it's not, then upgrade the card.

Hope that helps.

I would go with the 680 Corsair case. It is the same price and you get more room.

Thanks for your feedback, would you say, for the 2000 Euros, that this would be the best system?
