Hi Everyone,

I need a PC for 3D modeling, and rendering, and later animation.

I use a lot Rhino3D (which doesn't require a lot of power) and keyshot for product visualisation. I would like to slowly start rendering on blender and also do small animation of products. A later goal is to do architecture visualisation too.

CGDirector.com Parts List: https://www.cgdirector.com/pc-builder/?=6LUxw

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5GHz 16-Core Processor ($697.00)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC ATX AM4 ($149.59)
Memory: 32GB (2 x 16GB) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 C16 ($195.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: Sabrent Rocket 1TB NVMe Gen4 M.2 Solid State Drive ($169.98)
Power Supply: Corsair CX Series CX450M 450W ATX 2.4 Power Supply ($69.64)
Case: NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower Case ($139.99)

I initially wanted to get a rtx 2070super but everything is out of stock (also close ranges of graphics cards close by such as 2060, 2080...) And i saw that the 3070 is out and is better than what initial wanted for roughly the same price, so i was thinking to get this but its out of stock too. so i am thinking to get a very basic one just to do the job for the moment and get a 3070 when there will be stock again.
The basic one i was thinking was a gtx 1600 which is ok but starts to be a bit old now. And add the 3070 when out, ideally have those two connected, does the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC ATX AM4 allows this?

I am not sure those choices are the most relevant ones tho...

Thanks in advance

Paul

Yes the GPU stock situation is crazy right now. A lot of buyers do it like you, they get or use an old GPU until the newer gpus are available and then buy it at a reasonable price.

For a 3070 you should get a stronger PSU, though, I'd recommend at least 550W, better 650W.

The second pcie slots runs at pcie3 x4 only, but it should be fine for the slower gpu. Be sure to plug your 3070 into the topmost slot then.

(Sorry for the previous message, was an error, is it possible to edit it or delete it? 🙃)
Thanks, I am not sure about the CPU too, i don't understand the difference between the 3950x and the 5900x Ryzen, they look quite similar and have a similar price too. Is there a difference between the two?

The 3950X has 16 cores, but those 16 cores do not clock quite as high. The 5900X is a newer gen with 12 cores, but these 12 cores clock higher so you'll see higher gaming and active work performance. You can also get the 5950X which is the successor to the 3950X and also has 16 cores that are clocked higher.

ok got it, seems like the 5900x is hard to get too at the moment..
i actually can't find a more basic graphic card with a decent price for what it is, so i was wondering if i don' have any graphic card at the beginning, can it still work, as keyshot renders via the cpu, and blender can too. or is it better to have something?

You'll need a graphics card otherwise your PC won't boot and your monitor will not be able to display anything. :) A GPU is notjust for heavy duty rendering tasks but also responsible for basic monitor display.

Ok understood. Also i just came across Quadro GPUs and it seems to be more appropriate for rendering. Does it make more sense to take a card from this range or is it better to go for a RTX. I understood RTX ones support optix so it speeds up rendering, so I m not quite sure to understand the purpose of those Quadro cards.

Quadros are Professional GPUs that come with different drivers and are usually better supported by software vendors. They are usually much more expensive than their mainstream counterparts. I'd recommend to go with a GTX or RTX GPU as you usually get much more performance per dollar.

Ok, thanks a lot for all the advices it's really helpful. I will go for a RTX 3070 when they restock, hopefully soon...😅
Also I am wondering how in comparaison to the ryzen 3950X is the i9-10900K? and in general what differs from an intel to an amd CPU?

The 3950X has higher multi-core performance while the 10900K has higher single performance. AMD CPUs tend to draw less power, and if you get a current gen 5950X for example, you'll have both higher multi- and higher single-core performance on the 5950X.
