I have decided to take the plunge and build my own PC this time round instead of buying pre-built. I thought it might be a fun experiment to try and probably will be a little frustrating too!

I have ordered anything yet, was hoping to get some opinions on things before hitting the savings.

These are the parts that I think I am going to buy:

Motherboard - MSI B550M Pro-VDH - £114
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - £190
RAM - Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4-2666 UDIMM - £110
SSD - Crucial P5 500 PCIe M.2 - £75

Two components I am not sure on and hope someone can help, I do not plan on any gaming on the machine at all, I plan to use it to study and business. Next year if things do not go well in a job hunt, I am use the computer for content creation, such as YouTube videos.

I am wondering if anyone can give recommendations on both Graphics Cards and PSU. Ideally on both I wouldn't want to spend more than another £100 - £150 if possible

You can get away with a 450 or 550w PSU such as the Corsair CX Series Modular CX450M 450W ATX 2.4. That's about 50£ .

As for a GPU under 100£, take a look at either a 1050Ti or a RX550. Both of those will work, though they are a bit low-end compared to your other components. A 1660 Super would be great in conjunction with the 3600 CPU.

I think I'd probably go with the 550w just to cover for any upgrades that might be done.

In regards to the CPU, using the custom PC builder on the site here, it suggests buying the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X but I believe this is a slower CPU that the Ryzen 5 3600, is that correct?

Thanks for the advice on graphics cards, I'll probably save for another month or two and buy the better one.

The 2700X is an 8 Core CPU while the 3600 is a 6 Core CPU. That said, the 3600 is a newer generation and has higher performance per core. In multi-tasking workloads, the 2700X still is faster though.

I've had a rethink and decided to change things up a bit and before I order wanted to get your opinion on the parts, Alex, if you don't mind.

Same motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH:
CPU I decided to go with the Ryzen 7 2700X
For RAM, I was thinking this Corsair
For the SSD I was thinking this Samsung
PSU is the one that you recommended Corsair
For the actual case I was thinking of this Aerocool Cylon, was wondering if you would recommend anything different and if not, if you could recommend fans for this case.
For the GPU, I was 1660 super that you recommended, unless you would change than now I have decided to go with the Ryzen 7

Looks good to me overall. That case already comes with fans, doesn't it? If it doesn't you can take a look at some of the noctua or bequiet silentwings fans, as they are excellent.
