Hi, all, my name's Ryan and I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't know the difference between a Ryzen and a basketball, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm trying to build a pc for engineering as I use Solidworks and Fusion 360 in my Fabrication business. I'm in serious need of some good advice in terms of what will run CAD and CAM software easily and reasonably quickly. I've copied this list from the pc builder, and I'm hoping someone can take a look and see if it should do what I need. If not, please point out any substitutes that would be better suited to the task. Thanks in advance for any advice.

CGDirector.com Parts List:

CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X 24-Core sTRX4 3.80 GHz Unlocked CPU Processor
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 ($262.13)
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080 8GB - EVGA XC Gaming ($1489.00)
Memory: 32GB (2 x 16GB) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 C16 ($229.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: Sabrent Rocket 1TB NVMe Gen4 M.2 Solid State Drive ($159.98)
Power Supply: EVGA 650 B5, 80 Plus Bronze 650W Power Supply ($72.00)
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P300 ATX Mid Tower Case ($160.17)

I would recommend a Ryzen processor and an X570 motherboard instead of a Threadripper if you're primarily working within a viewport.

CGDirector.com Parts List: https://www.cgdirector.com/pc-builder/?=6MqDR

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 3.4GHz 16-Core Processor ($919.99)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 ($164.99)
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB - MSI Gaming X ($999.66)
Memory: 32GB (2 x 16GB) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 C16 ($229.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 1000GB M.2 Solid State Drive ($201.77)
Power Supply: EVGA 650 B5, 80 Plus Bronze 650W Power Supply ($67.00)
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P300 ATX Mid Tower Case ($158.85)
Total: $2832.15

This is a good build template to start.

PS. Thanks to a very messed up GPU market, graphics card prices have been insane. Try finding an RTX 3080 or 3070 in your region instead of the one in your build at that price point.

Thank you very much for the advice. I'll see if I can find the GPU you suggested.
But I'm not sure what you mean when you say "primarily working within a viewport" Yes, I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.
Thanks again, it's very much appreciated.

Basically that the primary purpose of your system is to actually do work within an application. Many builds are centered around being good for rendering, instead of active work, and hardware varies when you're going that way,
