GPU or CPU - best bang for buck on Blender

I'm putting together a new build and want advice on where my money would be best placed. I'll be using blender to perform a range of tasks (3d modelling, compositing, animation, highpoly stuff) so I want an all rounder. Basically my question is: Should I invest more in the CPU (my main choice atm is AMD threadripper 3060x 24) with a semi decent gpu (8GB ASUS ROG STRIX GEFORCE RTX 3070 - HDMI, DP); or, would money be better spent on a mid range CPU (Ryzen 7 perhaps) and a higher performing GPU?

Hey Seanna,
This depends on if you plan on doing a lot of CPU Rendering or if you do GPU Rendering in Cycles (Optix / CUDA).

Generally, GPU Rendering would perform better, and for active work I suggest a mainstream CPU such as the Ryzen 7 or 9 you suggested. Threadripper CPUs are really only good if you depend on high-core counts as is important for CPU rendering.
