So I’ve been buying parts for my first build (generated on pcpartspicker) so am about ready to start my first gaming build when a buddy tells me the other day that this setup won’t work but he wasn’t specific. No compatibility issues came up but now I’m worried. Do you see any issues? I‘d appreciate any advice at all. Thanks!

I don't see any issues that might make your setup 'not work,' tbh. However, I'd steer you away from the 10900KF as a CPU for any type of build though as it's usually pretty bad value. What price are you getting for the CPU + Motherboard? Check prices for a decent Z690 motherboard and an Intel Core i7 12700KF too.
