I like some help building a pc. I have been reading on what basic parts I will need. I am still very green so I would like to do this right.

I found the pc builder tool but I figured you guys could tell me if there are any better options for my budget ($1500). What would be something you would choose different and why. Id like to learn as much as possible. Also maybe some good resources. I've been building guitar pedals for a while and got bored so I figured id venture into this hobby but I've realized I don't know where to start! Here is my list generated from pc builder. Also I really just want to do pc gaming and possible vr. If I am over kill on some of this stuff please let me know as id rather not spend too much money for something I wont use. Thank you for any help!

Parts List:
CPU: Intel i5 10600k 4.1GHz 6-Core Processor ($227.99)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S ($59.95)
Motherboard: MSI Z490 Gaming Edge WiFi ATX LGA1200 ($237.49)
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 6GB - EVGA XC Gaming ($499.88)
Memory: 16GB (2 x 8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 C16 ($84.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB NVME M.2 Solid State Drive ($112.87)
Power Supply: Corsair CX Series CX550M 550W ATX 2.4 Power Supply ($69.98)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Black ATX Mid Tower Case ($123.99)
Total: $1417.14

I also see that the Nvidia GTX 1660 6GB is extremely expensive atm or unavailable. should I be waiting to build a PC?

If you're able to wait, wait. Maybe you can buy some components if you find any good deals but it's a TERRIBLE moment to buy GPUs. Better find a different hobby until 2022 😅

As @MStein says, prices for new-gen hardware are crazy at the moment, especially for graphics cards. Try finding an RTX 3060 Ti or a Founder's Edition 3070 at around that price. All the other stuff seems fine to me :)
