Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop to use in the jewelry design and rendering business.
I mainly use Rhino and Zbrush programs for 3D modeling and Keyshot as a rendering program. Which laptop would you recommend me to buy for these programs?
I know these programs are programs with high CPU usage. Does this mean that a high-spec GPU is definitaly unnecessary for me?I have heard that Keyshot has a GPU rendering mode, but I don't know what advantages GPU rendering has.Is the GPU rendering significantly faster than CPU rendering for all kinds of CPUs? Would you recommend that I care about the GPU for the advantages of GPU rendering, or should I just focus on spending my money on a laptop that has the most powerful CPU but a low/mid-range GPU?
Lastly, are there brands or models preferred by product design professionals for some reason? For example, is there a brand or model they prefer because of the strong cooling system?
I want to buy a future-proof laptop. I don't have a budget limit, but I want to spend wisely without paying for features I won't need.(I have read some articles in CG Director.com.)

Thank you!

I'm not a product designer, so I can't say if there are specific features that would help them, but using the software you listed needs a fast CPU, 16-32gb of RAM and an NVM. Most Laptops at above ~1400$ will have this. As for the GPU, Keyshot makes great use of it and your renders will be a lot faster than just rendering with your CPU, so I would advise to not skimp on the GPU side of things.

Lenovo Legion comes to mind with a Ryzen 5800H and a RTX 3060 or 3070, but there are many other models and brands that have similarly specced Laptops.

GPUs are much better at 3D rendering than CPUs
So when choosing a laptop for your purpose, you need to focus on the graphics card. I'm not a Keyshot user, but you can find some useful info in this review.
My budget was tight when I was picking my current laptop for working with Redshift, Artec software and CAD programs, but maybe in a year I will purchase a laptop with 3080

(I hope I'm not getting it wrong)
According to Keyshot's minimum system requirements page(https://www.keyshot.com/system-requirements/), only these laptop GPUs support Keyshot GPU rendering mode:

NVIDIA (Recommended)

Mobile Cards:
  • QUADRO RTX 4000 Mobile or higher

NVIDIA (Supported)

Mobile Cards:
  • QUADRO T1000 Mobile or higher
  • QUADRO P1000 Mobile or higher
  • QUADRO RTX 3000 Mobile
  • QUADRO P520 Mobile or higher
  • QUADRO P500 Mobile or higher
  • GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile
  • GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile

So, GeForce RTX 3080, GeForce RTX 3070, GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPUs dont support GPU rendering mode?

Keyshot just didn't come around to updating that recommendation page yet. The newer 3xxx series Nvidia mobile GPUs are also supported.
