Hey everyone,

Nice to meet you all.

I am a Designer/Animator (UK based) and have been planning to build a workstation for learning C4D + Redshift. This is with the long-term goal of implementing a workflow for commercial + personal projects.

To give you an idea of my current workflow I primarily use Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and occasionally Premiere Pro.

After some research (sources attached below), I am now at the stage where I have gathered a parts list and am ready to purchase. But I wanted to open this thread as an opportunity to gather thoughts and opinions on my build before proceeding, as I have no prior experience or knowledge of building a PC. In doing so, I hope this thread serves not only to resolve my own piece of mind but to also offer useful insight for those (be it newcomers such as myself or seasoned members) in a similar position.

Build attached: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xMjsNc

Questions regarding my build:

> Thoughts and opinions on PCI Gen 5.0 when choosing a motherboard? Although not widely available, I am speculating the importance of future-proofing my build.
> Due to budget I am currently limited to purchasing a single GPU. But I wonder whether an RTX 4090 would be a more suitable option in terms of utilising VRAM for my workflow. I am conscientious of both speed and stability.
> Also, what are your thoughts on MSI, Asus, Gigabyte etc. in terms of choosing a GPU/Motherboard?
> Thoughts on AIO CPU cooling?

Thank you all for taking the time.

Chris

In addition to the above, my budget is between £3,000-£3,500.

I like the build!

I may try and get the RAM Modules in a Quad-Kit instead of 2x Dual, to increase compatibility.

If you're looking to stick with this PC and Motherboard for a long time, then yes, PCIe 5 would be the way to future proof it. It'll probably take another two or 3 generations, though until the GPUs truly saturate PCIe x16 across the board.

All Motherboard manufacturers you list are fantastic. It really comes down to the Board tier / chipset and gen, as brands can be great in one tier and bad in another. The MSI Carbon X670E is a good pick.

I usually recommend AIO for sustained workloads, and Air cooling for burst workloads. So if you're doing lots of active work on this PC get an Air cooler, if you do mainly rendering, go with an AIO.
