I waited for the 30xx series with the hope to buy 1 or 2. When I first heard about the 3090 I was excited, thinking that I could build a new box with fast GPUs, much faster than my current 2x1080ti, and start pushing my renders even more.
Then everything changed. The cards are barely available, the cost is not what was promised at all, and with the latest taxes regulations in the USA, it will get even pricier.
I kept waiting but I think at this point I can simply forget about it, at least, about the idea of buying 3090 or 3080 with the price originally promised.

What are other people planning to do? (I mean the ones who were planning to buy a 3080 or 3090)

It's ridiculous. Supply shortages, cards being scalped, cards being bought buy miners, covid delivery difficulties ... AMD and Nvidia both think this will last until mid 2021, so it really sucks right now.

Many that are building a PC right now, go with a lower tier gpu and plan on upgrading when 3xxx series prices and stock return to normal. But that definitely is not great.

Thanks for your insight, Alex
Well, the idea that they will return to normal is already encouraging. I hope you're right and it will actually happen.
If it will happen I don't mind waiting longer although I have the feeling that by the time the prices will drop we will probably have faster cards.

I too had 2x 1080ti's and sold them to buy a 3090 now im stuck with no gpu's...not a happy situation...I cant beleive how no suppliers have gpus or Motherboards or in some cases CPU's...quite frustrating and I feel its only going to get worse by taking longer than we think...Even second hand cards are climbing in price.

Oh man, that doesn't sound fun. So now you have no GPU at all?

Yeah, I too was looking at used cards and, apart from a brief period of time, the price didn't decrease but actually quite the opposite.
