Just about ready to make the jump from my 20 years of mac to a PC. Still a little unsure about the best way to go for a machine that will do a ton of Fusion 360, plenty of blender, and hopefully a bit of Unity or Unreal engine game dev. Here's what the site helped me come up with:

CGDirector.com Parts List: https://www.cgdirector.com/pc-builder/?=zq1Cg0l0Emg

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9GHz 8-Core Processor ($339.99)
CPU Cooler: AMD Wraith Prism Cooler (Included with CPU) (-)
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 ($249.67)
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB - MSI Gaming ($310.49)
Memory: 32GB (2 x 16GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 C16 ($129.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: Crucial P1 1TB, M.2 Solid State Drive ($104.99)
Power Supply: Corsair CX Series CX550M 550W ATX 2.4 Power Supply ($93.26)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Black ATX Mid Tower Case ($123.99)
Total: $1352.38

I will probably end up doing some gaming and music production on this machine too, who knows, but the idea is that my macbook becomes a dedicated music machine, and all of my work and 3D stuff moves to the fancy PC.

Does this seem reasonable? Anywhere I should upgrade, or anywhere I can save some money? I'm hoping to come in around $1500 total, so any bucks to shave would be great here too. I'm hoping this will blow my 2.2GHz i7 Macbook Pro laptop out of the water.

Thanks in advance!

This looks like a good base build. You can always save some money by going with the 3700X CPU instead of the 3800X, or a slightly cheaper motherboard like the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus, but you might not have as much fun with upgrades to newer gen cpus, if you save too much on the motherboard.

You could start out with 16GB of RAM and upgrade lateron, but I find 32GB to be a sweet spot for 3D Work.

That Build will definitely be a good bit faster than your Macbook, but you'll see an even bigger difference if you go with the 3900X or even 3950X CPU.

sweet, thank you!

What would you change to push it past a "base build"? 3900x does seem like a no brainer, anything else that jumps out?

edit: I'd take my budget up to $2500 if it got me something that was fast enough to essentially not think about! :) But I'm trying to figure out where the nice break is, like at what point am I paying lots for small incremental improvements.

A stronger GPU such as the 2060 Super or 2070 Super would get you some added performance too. A third party cpu cooler might be nice too for some gains in boost speeds on the cpu, but not entirely necessary unless you have some sustained rendering workloads.
