PC build for GPU rendering - C4D Octane & Redshift

Hi, I’m currently willing to build a GPU rendering workstation around 2k budget max.
I'm new to 3D and just want to explore C4D with Redshift and Octane without frustration linked to low perfs.
I've heard a lot that running multiple GPUs for that setup are highly recommended.

So there goes my first question:
Is the difference between single and dual GPU that big of a deal ?

That leaves me with 2 build options, which one would you recommend and why ?

Option 1: Single GPU - 2171€
CPU: AMD RYZEN9 3900x 3.8Ghz 12-Core Processor - 445€
No CPU cooler on this one since it comes with the CPU. Do you think I still need one ?
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus - 232€
GPU: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2070 8G Super Blower - 620€
Took the blower format cause I'll surely plug another GC in the future
Memory: 32Go (2x16Go) Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3600MHz C18 - 171€
Storage PCIe-SSD1: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 1 TB - 154€
Os & apps
Storage PCIe-SSD2: Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 1 TB - 203€
Active projects
Storage HDD: Seagate BarraCuda Compute 4TB, 3.5" - 113€
Archives
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 850W - 150€
Case: Corsair Carbide 275R - 83€

Option 2: Dual GPU - 2153€
CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X 3.8GHz 8-Core Processor - 160€
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 TR4 - 87€
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus - 232€
GPU1: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2060 6G Turbo - 400€
GPU2: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2060 6G Turbo - 400€
Memory: 32Go (2x16Go) Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3600MHz C18 - 171€
Storage PCIe-SSD1: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 1 TB - 154€
Os & apps
Storage PCIe-SSD2: Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 1 TB - 203€
Active projects
Storage HDD: Seagate BarraCuda Compute 4TB, 3.5" - 113€
Archives
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 850W - 150€
Case: Corsair Carbide 275R - 83€

Do you think an ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus would fit as a motherboard for those 2 configs ?

For now, I am a bit above my initial budget. It's my first build so any recommandations on alternative parts for optimization / lowering the price are more than welcome ! I’d like to get below 2k if possible.

Cheers,
Arthur

Edit: I have to precise that I'm already a motion designer, working a lot with AE, PS and Illustrator.
I'm currently working on a 2019 Macbook Pro because I need mobility as a freelance.
This workstation I'm building might become my main one since we get more to work at home lately.
Therefore I'll need to be able to do a lot of multi tasking on it for a living, and some C4D as a hobbie.
I might consider to take 3D to a professional level later on but for now it's not the point, dunno if that helps :)

Edit2: Ignore previous edit. Thanks to your response to my comment on the "Best Hardware for GPU Rendering" section, I think I see more clearly what I want.

Right now I'm looking for an active workstation that can achieve with good performance :
- what I do for living : mainly interaction design & a lot of multi tasking - AE/PS/AI
- what I'll do for fun (that I might consider to take on a professional level later on) : C4D with Octane & Redshift

Therefore, tell me if I'm wrong, but I think the best for me would be to get right now an active workstation that works well with Redshift and Octane, and maybe later on a GPU Rendernode ?

I guess option 1 would be better in that way, I'm still looking for any optimization if you see some :).
Cheers

I have seen a discount on 2 ASUS T RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB with blower fans at 800€ so I bought them. Those models are excessively expensive in UE (between 500 & 600€ each) and that sounded as a great deal.

With that I finally decided to set my budget around 2500. Here's what my final build might look like:

CPU: AMD RYZEN9 3900x 3.8Ghz 12-Core Processor - 445€
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15 black - 100€
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus - 232€
GPU1: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2060 8G Super Blower - 400€
GPU2: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2060 8G Super Blower - 400€
Memory: 64 Go (4x16 Go) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX CAS 16-18-18-36 3200 (kinda worried about that one with different CAS) - 279€
Storage PCIe-SSD1: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 1 TB - 154€
Storage PCIe-SSD2: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 1 TB - 154€
Storage HDD: Seagate BarraCuda Compute 4TB, 3.5" - 98€
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 850W - 150€
Case: Corsair Carbide 275R - 83€

Total: 2495€

Hey Arthur,
Yes your best bet is to have a fast active workstation and when you have the money to expand and get a second gpu render node.

I like your build list, though for the dual gpu build you should think about another x570 motherboard as the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus does only have 1x16/1x4 pcie speeds on the two pcie-slots, so the second gpu would be pretty throttled.

Look at something like the Gigabyte Aorus Pro, or even the Asus WS ACE x570 which allows you to drive 3 gpus at x8 pcie speeds.

CL16 Ram latency at 3200mhz clock speed is pretty standard and you'll see about the same performance as with a CL18 3600Mhz RAM kit.

Rest of the build looks great!

Hey Alex,

Thanks a lot for the help, very appreciated.

I'll dig a little more into motherboards then ! :)

Just a newbie question,

Multi GPU setup for 3D rendering has nothing to do with SLI setup? You just plug them and that's it, right ?

Is there anything to setup in either BIOS or C4D for maximizing performances?

Cheers
