Speeds of pcie slots

Hi,
I’m going to add another gpu to my system. My mobo has 2 pcie slots, one at x16 and one at x4. Are those speeds super important to rendering in Octane?
On the other hand I’ve been looking at the Asus WS x750 board, it sports three pcie x16running at 8x each.
If I go the route of a new mobo and two more gpus, I gotta get a new psu as well.
Thanks, I love this site, I used the system to put my first pc together, fleeing from MacPro prices

Hey Brian,
Yes, in certain scenes, going from x8 to x4 means a significant slowdown. This depends a lot on the type of GPUs you have though too. And the type of scenes (do they fit into the VRAM completely or need out of core access to system RAM..)

The Asus ws ace x570 is an excellent board that allows you to run 3 gpus on a mainstream ryzen platform, so that one is highly recommended.

Thanks for info. I forgot to provide my specs, which I arrived at after reading your posts on viewport performance, ram, and all the great info on how software utilizes the hardware!

Ryzen 3800x
Aorus Elite WiFi mobo
Rtx 2070 Super
64 gb ram
650 w psu

Thanks!

A 2070 Super will not throttle at all at x8, but would throttle a bit at x4, so I'd advise against using it on a x4 slot. You should look into a stronger PSU with at least 750W or 850W for two GPUs. 650W is pushing it.
