System for 3D modeling and architecture software

Hi, I want to customize a system for my 3D modeling and architecture software. This is a recommendation from GCGDirector pc-builder. I am wondering if it is a good choice. I am hesitating between AMD Ryzen 9 3900X and AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, as the overall clock of 3900X is 3.8GHz (and it is cheaper). while rendering is important, as your web suggests, for modeling and actively working in your 3D Scene, having the highest Clock Speed possible is very important. Moreover, the compatibility note on the website shows: - High-Profile RAM might require slight CPU-Fan up-shift. Would you please give me your suggestions.
Thank you

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5GHz 16-Core Processor ($709.99)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 ($294.07)
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080 Super 8GB - Gigabyte Turbo ($750.00)
Memory: 64GB (4 x 16GB) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 C16 ($354.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB NVME M.2 Solid State Drive ($249.99)
Power Supply: EVGA 650 B5, 80 Plus Bronze 650W Power Supply ($89.99)
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 ($163.97)
Total: $2702.90

You will notice almost no difference between the 3900X and the 3950X in active work. Both will be equally smooth. If you are doing CPU rendering, of course the 4 extra cores on the 3950X will get you a good performance boost for such workloads.

The warning you are seeing just means, that the RAM that has been selected is slightly taller than standard so you might have to move the cpu fan up a few millimeters, which is no problem at all and a standard procedure. Just so you know.

Overall, the build listed above is excellent for your kind of work, and the only thing that you could change to make it even better, would be to swap the 2080 super with a RTX 3080, but as these gpus are so new, their pricing might 1. be inflated and 2. be hard to find currently.

Thank you very much. RTX 3080 is out of stock now, but I'll try to get that one. Just I am wondering if I can get that, is it compatible with the rest of the hardware I have chosen. I believe I have to choose a 750w power supply. is it correct?
Another basic question, I found out there are different manufacturer for RTX 3080. Do you suggest any specific one?
I really appreciate your help.

Yes you should get a stronger PSU, 750W will be fine. Asus, Msi, Gigabyte, Evga are all good brands, but if you plan on going multi-gpu in the future, be sure to get a dual-slot blower style design like the Gigabyte 3080 blower (not available to buy yet)

Sorry for my lots of questions.
To be honest, I found this website the most reliable source, so I bring my questions here for you.

Regarding the motherboard, is MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 the best option for AMD Ryzen 9 3950X as well as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080? As the fastest delivery is in one month for me, I wanted to make sure if it is the best option and worths waiting for it? (please give me your suggestion).

Moreover, is it compatible with the graphic card and 4 pieces of the memory( (4 x 16GB)? As I changed some of the parts from previous list, would you please look the following list and check the compatibility for me?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5GHz 16-Core Processor ($709.99)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 ($89.90)
Motherboard: your suggestion
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Graphics Card - Titanium and Black ($699.99)
Memory: 64GB (4 x 16GB) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 C16 ($354.99)
Storage PCIe-SSD: SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology (MZ-V7S2T0B/AM)($349.99)
Power Supply: EVGA 750 B5, 80 Plus BRONZE 750W, Fully Modular, EVGA ECO Mode, 5 Year Warranty, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-B5-0750-V1
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 ($163.97)

As my last question, would you please suggest me a good monitor. Do you suggest me to go with 2 monitors or one ultra wide monitor?

Thanks again very much for your help and good website.

Hi again,
Considering that the price for MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4 Wifi ($327) is almost the same as ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero ($359), which one do you suggest. please let me know if you have any other suggestion too.
Thank you very much

The 3080 is a good choice and has great value. BUT you should get dual slot, blower style gpus for a multi-gpu setup. Those type of cards perform better in a stacked config. They aren't yet available, so you might have to wait a few weeks. This is what a dual-slot, blower style gpu looks like: https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N3090TURBO-24GD#kf

The MSI Tomahawk x570 Is among the best Motherboards and will perform nicely with the 3080, yes.

It is also compatible with pcie4 and 4 RAM slots, yes.

Your List looks great to me, I see no issues!

The Tomahawk is the better choice :)

Thank you very much for your help. I could get
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Graphics Card - Titanium and Black
I am wondering if it is a good choice for now and future multi-gpu?
for the PSU, I want to get the same PSU brand, 750W: "EVGA 750 B5, 80 Plus BRONZE 750W, Fully Modular, EVGA ECO Mode"
Any other suggestions?
I really appreciate your help.

That GPU is the Founders Edition model, so it won't do so well in multi-GPU setups where stacking is a factor. I'd recommend waiting for the Blower GPUs to launch. As of now, there's just one Ampere model that's available from Gigabyte, but it's an RTX 3090 - https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N3090TURBO-24GD#kf

Thank you very much. Is it a good choice for single GPU setup. or I need to try to find another manufacturers' models. RTX3080 models are usually out of stock and that was the only one I could buy by refreshing BestBuy website repeatedly.
Thank you

Yep, if you just want to use one GPU, that model will do just fine :) Go for it.

Hi,
I got EVGA 750 B5, 80 Plus BRONZE 750W, Fully Modular, EVGA ECO Mode, 5 Year Warranty, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-B5-0750-V1
However, the CPU socket of PSU is 4+4 (there are two cables for CPU and both are 4+4) and the CPU socket of the motherboard is 8+4. please find attached the pictures:
Motherboard: https://ibb.co/JH1X5vf
PSU: https://ibb.co/2vXNqjg
Would you please let me know the good and compatible PSU with: MSI X570 Tomahawk ATX AM4.
I am looking forward to hearing from you ASAP.
Thanks,

I am wondering if I should use one of the cables (4+4) for the 8 pin socket and just one of the 4 socket of the other 4+4 cable for the 4 pin socket?????
should I change the PSU.
I really appreciate your help.

Yes you can use one of the 4+4 for the 8pin, and half of the other 4+4 for the 4-pin.
