Hi all, Looking for advise here, i can pickup a cheap 8th gen i5-8500 for 100€ range. I know i'll need to replace the PSU to get any of the GPUs to work with it, but am i missing something else. Is there something else that won't be compatible with it? Don't mind replacing the case, was thinking of getting something with LEDs to make it look more flash (its only for a soon to be 7yr old).

Various GPU i can pickup for around 50€

Many thanks, Paul

Those are very interesting parts. I'm not entirely sure how they'll work together but I can't think of anything that should give you any particular trouble. The 1050Ti doesn't draw that much power. What kind of a PSU is in the HP PC that you're getting?

I've found my error, the HP PC / motherboard will have a proprietary PSU. It'll be near useless for upgrading with a GPU

Ah that might very well be. I'd see if you can get an older gaming PC with standard market parts e.g. from ebay instead of building one into an non-standard pre-built.

True, but all are in the 300€+ range for same spec. Ah i was only looking for something basic for his first PC and that'll pass the Win11 spec culling in 2025. I'll keep trolling the local adverts, there was a few i just missed out on, hopefully the xmas madness hasn't kicked in yet and i'll find something.

Many thanks for the help here, its an invaluable source of help.

I'll update on purchase for other to compare and judge :)

Cheers, Paul
