No idea how to build a pc

Hello, I have used laptops all my life and now that I am specilising in 3D modeling and Character Sculpting, I need a good machine to do the work for an enthusiast like myself. I am currently working on a Helios Preditor 300, GTX 1060, intel I7 8 gen, 16gb ram and 512 ssd. However, I have noticed that it started slowing me down. My budget for a pc build is 2000-2500k but idk if that is a sensible upgrade. And since I do not understand anything about pc components I do not what to look into. Thoughts?
