A warm welcome to all new users! :) We are excited to see this community grow and look forward to having interesting and fun discussions with you!

I am Alex and, together with my team, run CGDirector. I love helping out in any way I can, but mostly this is by writing in-depth articles on PC-Hardware and Content-Creation workloads, or by helping the community fiddle with their new build and hardware components.

I'm extremely interested in optimizing processes such as rendering, or analyzing performance bottlenecks in order to make my and your work more efficient.

Tell us a little bit about yourself! :)

After Introducing yourself, here are some of the things you can do to get started:
- Get an expert opinion on your planned PC Build or Hardware Upgrade
- Discuss 3D, Video Editing, Graphic Design Workloads or Gaming Workloads
- Show us some of your recent work!

... and more :)

Hello Alex and thank your for this SOLID website & forum!

I am a trainer in motion design with After Effects and C4D Redshift.

Olivié in France.

Hi, Im Chrisb1rst of all thank you for this site. I’m 53 d I’ve been active with computers and some intermediate level programming as far back as TRS 80 64k color computers. Now that I’ve dated myself well, I can further enlighten you to the gaps in my knowledge base. I was a master of Windows 3.1 and DOS with a little Basic, Visual Basic, and PASCAL knowledge. I earned my 1rst Applied science degree in Computer Based Electronics and Data Processing but I went on into the Field of Animal Science because despite my love of tech I’m an Outdoors kind of guy with a love of Crafting and Fishing. I was gaming well into my 30s, but after World of War craft came out, I finished my Bachelors and became a Dad. I haven’t built a gaming PC from the ground up since 2003, but I did build a few. I feel like my skill set has gaps that correspond to the advances in tech over the years but I’m confident in my ability to figure out what I dont know. That’s why this site as comprehensive as it is was a great pleasure to find. I will continue to support this site. but If I could have one question answered it is going to have to be Where can I find a one stop shop for all the materials I need and still realize a cost savings by building myself ? I’m not sure Frys is the answer, and a few other sites make big promises bit I’m skeptical. I don’t mind shopping around but it’s nice to find the reviews from the customers and the pros about where to go to get a good deal. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Chris Gipson

Howdy all:

I’m a retired engineer and mentor to a high school FIRST FRC robotics team. I’m an active CAD user (Solidworks and OnShape). And I’ve started learning animation — initially with Blender but now with Maya. I’be built all my desktop computers for the last 20 years, and will be building my 4th in the coming few months. My next one will be designed to support my growing interest in animation/rendering.

Hi everyone,

I am primarily a UX\UI designer and a bit of 3D printing enthusiast. Looking to get familiar with redshift to integrate 3d elements \ effects into my designs. Found this site searching for benchmarks, thank you for keeping a database.

Cheers!
Alex.

Hello everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself, Vincent Amstutz, also known as Jellysart on Instagram. I am a 3D CGI artist and motion designer based in Fribourg, Switzerland. (https://vincentamstutz.ch/)

Regarding 3D work, I am a Cinema 4D user, but I am currently transitioning to Houdini. As for the rendering engine, I primarily favor Redshift.

Thanks for the welcome Alex. You guys have a great and useful forum for a lot of people in the design/creative fringe of many industries.

I have worked mainly as an industrial/product designer across many different types of product,, medical through FMCG, some architectural stuff and through to GUIs'. First used a 2D computer drawing system on a mainframe in 1984.... Then in 1988 started to get a bit of experience on Autocad 9 with two screens and digitised pad!. A year later and with a 286 complete with maths copro got to learn FastCad - best and easiest 2D system ever for the time especially with the engineering add on. That stands almost to this day!, the joys of assembly programme speed.

DOS was used til Win95 came out when it was swapped around. No comment on Himem allocation and Novell network software.... Nice Mutoh pencil plotter A0 running 0.8m per sec. Anyway from this to an SGI Irix box with Varimetrix 3D. Also Pentium pro with Linux. Started to use Rhino as a beta and when it was released bought it. The potential of the product was evident and it has been well developed by the team at McNeel.

Fiddled with quite a few boxes since around Pentium pro days. Upgraded RAM, graphics, network cards various drives rememeber Zip drives?
Amazed how cheap memory is now, 128Mb was £200 in '98 now 64Gb is the same money, well less with inflation!.

Still looking to some future projects. Best wishes to all here. Tim

Thx for the message Alex,

Newer type person to PC building. Couple years back I picked up my first higher end build for some video editing, 3d modeling. However, do utilize that much anymore sense new job position. Enjoyed the pc for gaming. Recently my build manager we giving me issues with temps. I was throttling. Often. As how I am I went down the rabbit hole and discovered the wonderful world of upgrades and dabbled into some overclock/undervolting. I was able to cool down my Ryzen 9 5900x and gain performance. Been bench marking on Cinebench 2024 and that lad em to Thai wonderful site! My kind of people!

Hey Alex!
My name is Victor, I'm currently working as a care giver for the elderly but am working to transition into tech. I am fascinated by AI and much like yourself I want to see how we can leverage this new tool on our human bottlenecks. My first selfish project once I get enough disposable income will be to build a home server. I plan on using it for media storage, private game servers and home automation.

Hey Alex, hey guys.

I'm a trailer editor for German TV and built my new 3D workstation largely with the help of this site and figured this could be a good place to get some expert advise for the future. Looking forward to discussions.

Regards,
Matthias
