Planning a build for a Daz3d PC

Greetings all. I'm a new (3 months) hobbyist in the 3D space. Unlike a lot of people here, I'm using the Daz3d product for my work, again - I'm just starting out. Someday I may add in Blender or something else, for for now, it's Daz3d.

So that means an IRAY renderer, which means Nvidia GPU. Now currently I am doing my work on my Apple iMac, using CPU renders. I haven't owned a PC in over 20 years. But as I delve into this hobby (which I've decided I greatly enjoy), I've decided to build a machine for rendering/3d art.

I'm getting a decent amount of money in the end of October, and my birthday is in November, so I'm thinking of putting together something in the $5000 or less range, with:
  • Decent AMD CPU... but Ryzen or Threadripper? Not sure. Being a GPU build, is the Threadripper's additional features worth the cost?
  • An Nvidia 30#0 series GPU, hopefully a 3090... we'll see if the supply problem is any better in Nov.
  • At least 32GB RAM, maybe 64GB
  • Two NVME drives for apps and data, plus a SATA HDD for archive
  • Wifi 6, as my workspace is not near the home router :)
  • And whatever case, cooling, and PSU would be best for the above.
So right now, I'm looking for advice on the CPU/Motherboard combination. I'm still going to be using my Mac for my "normal" computer stuff... this is going to be primarily my hobby 3d rendering machine. Maybe a game or two... but I'm not really a gamer. Which means I also don't need anything that's targeted to gamers that doesn't also help creative work - I'd rather have a solid, fast, reliable machine than an overclocked hot gaming box...

I'm open to advice and recommendations, as I am just starting my research. I looked at the Build tool, but its recommended box had 4x 20#0 Nvidia in it (because that's what's available now)... I'd like to make sure I'm building something that'll be good for the newer GPUs just coming out...

Thanks!

Hey Andy,
I think I answered your question over in the comments already (https://www.cgdirector.com/best-computer-3d-modeling-rendering/#comment-22621)

To sum up. Get a Ryzen if you need up to 3 GPUs (On a Asus WS ACE x570 Motherboard), get a Threadripper if you need more GPUs or more than 16 Cores.

With AMDs new CPUs around the corner, the 5950X sounds like a great CPU for you.

Yeah, being a hobbyist (although one with a decent wallet), I'm leaning towards Ryzen 5950 in Nov - I doubt I'll have more than 1 GPU.

I'm toying with the following:
  • Asus Prime X570-Pro
  • Corsair Vengeance White RGB Pro 64GB-3600
  • 2x Samsung Pro 980 1TB M.2
  • Corsair iCUE 4000X RGB Case
  • Corsair HX Platinum 750W PSU
  • Corsair H100i RGB Platinum SE Cooler
Couple the above with the new Ryzen CPU, and a 3090 card (preferably an ASUS, but it might be whatever I can find)
I confess some of the above is vanity - I think the Asus Prime board looks cool as black and white - so I got matching parts. While I'm not enamored with the lighting... the more I look at it, the more it grows on me :)

For long term data storage, I have an external NAS.

I figure I can get all of the above in early Nov (just in time for my birthday) except maybe the 3090... if that's still unavailable, I'll probably just get a cheap video card and do CPU renders (which I'm doing right now on my iMac, and this would be better at it) until I can find a 3090.

You can start a pre-order for the 3090, and it might be ready to ship in November. Setup looks good to me! :)

Just saying, with the current stock situation, you would be lucky to get a 3090 right away as there is a waiting list on many of the new nvidia gpus.
