Hey

I am trying to build my son (10yrs) a PC and have no clue where to start. I did some research and I am lost lol.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor ($274.95)
CPU Cooler: AMD Wraith Spire Cooler (Included with CPU) (-)
Motherboard: ASRock B450 Gaming K4 ATX AM4 ($94.99)
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1650 Super 4GB - Gigabyte ($369.99)
Memory: 8GB (2 x 4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 C16 ($57.33)
Storage PCIe-SSD: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB NVME M.2 Solid State Drive ($59.99)
Power Supply: Corsair CX Series CX550M 550W ATX 2.4 Power Supply ($66.00)
Case: Fractal Design Focus G Mid Tower Case ($42.99)

is this something that would work. He talks about Gary’s mod and steam etc. would these parts be able to give somewhat of a reasonable performance?! Obviously I’m on a budget also but his HP laptop can’t handle anything lmao

please don’t laugh at me
Btw I seen a cute case on Amazon that I would purchase instead of the $42 one

thank you 😊

For someone who just started looking into this, you've managed to pick out decent parts :) cheers!

As for the build itself, I'd recommend a few tweaks to optimize performance vs. cost.

First, go with a Ryzen 5 5600G instead of that 2700. It'll be better and cheaper
And switch the motherboard to one from the list here - https://www.cgdirector.com/best-b550-motherboards/#B550_Motherboard_Overview

I'd recommend switching to an aftermarket cooler and ditching the stock cooler if you want to get the most out of the CPU without increasing noise levels too much. Two good options at (and often below) $50 price point are - be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black and Scythe Mugen 5.

Next, up the memory to at least 16GB. Most games will need that much very very soon. Here are a few popular value-oriented kits - https://www.cgdirector.com/best-mem...-3600-3700x-3900x/#Value_Champs_3200_MHz_CL16

Lastly, try finding an RTX 3060 (locally) if at all possible. You should get one at the $400 mark and it'll be miles better than a 1650. Unfortunately, lower-end GPUs in the current market are quite horrible value and I always recommend avoiding them (if budget isn't a hurdle). This list might help you - https://www.cgdirector.com/where-to-buy-pc-parts-cpus-graphics-cards-in-your-country/

Good luck! :)
